Arts and Crafts on Whangarei Heads

Art Trail/Art Tours: Whangarei Heads, Northland

Whangarei Heads’ spectacular natural beauty has attracted and inspired many artists who live in the area and exhibit their work in very beautiful galleries. Some sell work from all over New Zealand while others relate solely to the work of the owner-artist.

Many of these are  prepared to open daily, especially if visits are organised in advance. If you are staying in the area, check with your accommodation provider.

Interest in the local Arts community can be exemplified by a couple of local events, CollaboratioNZ and The Whangarei Heads Art Trail.

CollaboratioNZ is a biennial event where artists of all types live and work together at McGregors Bay for a week. The results of their collaborative efforts are auctioned at Forum North in Whangarei on the final Saturday of the week and proceeds are reinvested in funding the next such event. In 2013 the event ran from Sunday 9 March to Saturday 16 March. It is due to take place again at Whangarei Heads in 2015.

The Whangarei Heads Arts Trail event takes place each year on the Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend. A trail of artists around Whangarei Heads open their galleries, studios and workshops for the public to come and view their work. In 2014 this event takes place on Saturday and Sunday 19 and 20 April from 10 am to 5pm. More details are now available through a dedicated website, click on the following link:
