Diving and Snorkelling are great activities within the Whangarei Harbour Marine Reserve. Note that the waters around Motukaroro / Passage Island have strong tidal currents and back eddies. Experience and local knowledge is recommended for your safety and enjoyment.

A visit to Tutakaka / The Poor Knights is ranked 48 in the  c2012 listing, ' AA’s 101 Must Do’s for Kiwis' , although it has been ranked as high as number 10..
